Moreover, you can sack nearby cities, enter diplomacy, and give the wrecked town to your protectorate for fifty coins and they will repair it for you. The entire point of making protectorates is to avoid dealing with suppressing unrest. You can obtain a full stack on the march, it's a win/win. You get free units when you liberate, meaning there's no need to turtle into a full stack. You also get the choice of terminating the protectorate status if they're attacked, making all previous turns of income you received from them essentially free money that you didn't have to do anything for. This trade income grows as you obtain more trade resources. You get 50% of the liberated province income per turn, and you can generate additional income through trade agreements with protectorates. Just take the province yourself and reap the benefits. You only get a fraction of their income, instead of the whole amount from the province, they will get you dragged into wars you don't want and basically don't contribute much. So the war shall go on, my allies shall continue to be useless and actually be harmful to me and I shall continue debating whether or not to actually continue this playthrough or not. But no, apparently this is unacceptable to them. I manage to win an outstanding victory (if I do say so myself) and route these 6 stacks back to their territory and prepare to make peace after wounding Napoleon himself and killing four other generals. Then, along come my Prussian and Austrian allies declaring war on my protectorates which somehow means I'M the villain by refusing to come to my protectorates defence, only for France to immediately go back on its peace treaty and have 6 full stacks appear out of no where to attack my 2 full stacks. Here I am, turn 66 as Saxony, having just made peace with France after seizing three of its provinces and liberating them into protectorates to create a buffer state. Most of the time it's a blast, until the bullsh*t arrives. The best way I can describe Darthmod is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Also, I hope you like your allies losing on every conceivable front because the AI can only use the autoresolve. The French get the same stupid reduced cost units as all AI factions, but couple the fact that their units are already cheaper in Darthmod, have better stats AND the autoresolve gives HUGE bonuses too, have fun fighting every battle yourself because even if you outnumber them six to one with some of the best generals you have, you may still lose. I play on easy or normal (yeah come at me "git gud" players"), because it is just unfathomably difficult on anything else. I guess this is a warning to those who want to play Darthmod: the French will steamroll the entire world unless you fight EVERY-SINGLE-BATTLE perfectly or near perfectly. The amount of extra game time it has gotten me is outstanding, the fact you can play as any faction with loads of additional units, larger battles, more realistic combat etc is just beyond incredible and I applaud the team for all their hard work.īUT, it is also one of the most frustrating game experiences I have ever had the OTHER 50% of the time. I adore Darthmod for Napoleon 50% of the time.
